rushing w/o connections

I'm the first in my immediate fam to go to college.
I don't care about tiers at all, I've got my recs together, I've been working and saving for dues, and I'm keeping an open mind, but I'm assuming certain houses won't give me the time of day.
I'm fine with that, but I'm just curious if there are cases where a PNM made a great impression on houses that she wouldn't have seemed right for otherwise.

You hear stories all the time of random girls getting bids to houses they didn't have connections in. I don't know if they are myths, or facts.
Probably less than 5% of girls in top tier don't have connections. More for middle tier.
I'm my sorority, I honestly don't see how someone without at least alumni support would receive a bid. It just wouldn't happen unless she were to truly impress the rush team or someone who actually had any pull.

To all pnm without connections:
If you keep your options open, you will more than likely receive a bid! There are exceptions, like grade risks and such that will be dropped, but for the most part there is absolutely no need to worry about receiving a bid!
It may not be to a top house, it probably won't be to your first choice (as of now, that will change as you go through rush).
However, there are no bad houses at ole miss! I promise! Even bottom tier girls love their sororities!
My advice- quit worrying! Have fun! Keep an open mind! Know that on bid day you will run to a house that will be opening their arms to you!
