orientation frat cookout

When I was at orientation last week I heard some guys were invited to a frat "cookout". They said that a lot of houses have them. Can someone clarify what it is? Is it bad if you don't get invited?

it's a pre rush party for guys. normally sorority girls are there too and they bring their rushees that are at orientation. if you don't have connections, you wouldn't be invited. if you're not invited, you just miss out on getting to meet those guys

I'm an active and I've never heard of sorority girls bringing pnms to them. It would be a rush violation for them to do so.
