fall rush/recs

by: PNM

I'm rushing this Fall as a sophomore. I know a few people writing me recs, but how should I go about getting recs for houses where I don't know anyone? Also just general advice would be great! Thanks!

I seriously hate to be the one to break it to you, but you are seriously late in asking this advice! Most of the girls who will be going through recruitment started collecting Recs and letters of support back in January, if not before. By April they were already mailing out their packets, and have been on the radar of sororities since at least may, if not sooner.

At least those are the girls who will end up in the top six houses.

As a sophomore, your options will be limited. There is no sophomore quota, so sororities are not forced to take you. Their focus will be on the incoming freshmen. Sophomore who get bids to one of the top houses generally have many, many connections.

Pi phi, aopi, theta, adpi, and aphi will be your only options at this point. Work on making sure you have Recs to each of those, because without at least one Rec, they will be unable to give you a bid, even if they love you.

You need to ask everybody you know, and leave no stone unturned. And you need to do it quickly! Ask your old teachers, your mom's friends, your friends moms, ladies from church, ladies who work with your parents, aunts, neighbors, even hairdressers. The more people you ask, the better chance you have of finding Rec writers. Lastly, contact your local Panhellenic office. They might be able to help you, although in my hometown, they asked for packets to be turned in no later than June 1st.
