informal rush
by: Curious
Can someone please explain how informal rush works? I was unable to participate in formal rush and my rogam suggested that I informal rush.
I also hear girls getting snap bids.

You are hearing incorrectly, girls who are snap bids are given bids prior to Bid Day and no one in the pledge class is any the wiser. They are kept pretty quiet. There won't be any informal recruitment other than chapters who do not make quota on Bid Day until after SK colonization. Then other chapters are allowed to informally recruit after that. The only chapters that did informal in the fall were ASA and DPhiE.

"?" is correct- snap bids are kept quiet and extremely rare. Even great girls got snap bids -- some snap bid girls at top sororities went on to be leaders in the sorority. Now that there is a new colonization (SK), there will be no snap bids for a while. Snap bids were more prevalent about three years ago when houses cut too much at the front end because they had lower quotas (27 versus this year's 50). There are many reasons why women are unable to formal rush-- unfortunately many are due to family accidents, travel plans, the great Snowmageddon of a couple of years ago, etc. If you still want to do formal rush, there is always next year. See the recent discussion on rushing as a sophomore.
