tier system

by: Confused

What defines a top tier house? I never understand the tier system because some "top" houses have really cool people but they also have really weird people. Same thing with "bottom" tier houses. I don't understand what sets apart all of the houses.

Contrary to all the rumors. How much money someone's parents have, has nothing to do with getting a bid. There are too many girls going through and sororities do not have access to PNM's parent's bank accounts. However, once a bid is given the PNM has to be able to afford the dues ect. All the houses are very similar in cost. Again, regardless of rumors. As for how hard a house parties??? Really, all the houses have pairs and basically the same thing happens at all the parties.

Most of these girls know you before rush starts and it's not hard to figure out who's rich and who's not.

Has the richest girls? Do any of them ask during recruitment what your parents do for a living?

Not true at all, I'm broke af and never go out and I'm in a house that people consider "top". I'm at IU on scholarship and I am focused on doing well in school and maintaining my scholarship. So tired of people saying top houses are rich not true at all; very few people in my house have access to their parents cards aka only have their own money aka broke.

Honestly, thin and pretty party girls. Money & first semester frat parties help. It's 100% image.

It's all based on exclusivity. If most PNMs don't stand a remote chance of getting in, then it's top tier.

looks and how nice their house is are main factors

Nice house? Not even a factor, some of the oldest and least appealing houses on campus are the so called "popular" chapters. One of the Third Street houses looks like the 1980s died there. Another one of the Third Street houses is so small upstairs I almost had a panic attack during the house tour. Some of the nicest physical structures on campus are AXiD, AOII and Phi Mu.

How long you've been on campus is a huge factor. The top tier have consistently been here the longest.

But some of these chapters have gone dormant and come back, so it's really about when they came back.

Indiana doesn't have "Old Row" and "New Row." APhi (top tier) came to campus the same year as AGD (lower middle), for example. Only Pi Phi is top tier out of the five oldest houses.
