recruitment

by: sophomore

Give a girl a pep talk about sophomore rush! I rushed last year and decided to drop for a few reasons. I have a lot more self confidence and feel ready to take on recruitment again. I'm nervous about going through recruitment but I'm open to any house and really considering the non-housed ones. Any good advice?!

Practice talking to new people as much as you can. Each PNM only has a few minutes to make an impression, being able to carry on a good conversation helps. Be yourself, you want to find the best match for who you really are! Also, start with a fresh slate. The chapters you may have liked or not liked are at least 25% different than the chapter you met last year. The seniors will have graduated and girls who pledged last year will be recruiting for the first time. Most importantly, try to relax. Enjoy meeting all kinds of new people and keep an open mind. Best wishes!

Hey hey!
I rushed as a freshmen and sophomore as well!! Freshmen year I sadly was one of those girls with a full 3 party and ended up with no bid. The second time around was COMPLETELY different. I got almost all my favorite houses back and ended up in one of my favorite housed chapters. I'm going to be a senior now so after being on the other side of recruitment showed me that people like talking to sophomore PNMs more (or at least I did). You guys are in recruitment for more of the right reasons, more genuine and aren't doing it just because everyone on your floor is going through it. Honestly I know you think "being yourself" is dumb advice but trust me, if you're not and end up in the wrong house because you acted like someone you aren't, you'll hate your life. Don't focus on tiers (you seem like you aren't, and most sophomores don't care that much either it seems like) so honestly don't worry! Just seem really interested in the chapter and ask questions so they know you're interested! but steer clear of the boring "what's your major?" questions because we will forget who you are the second you leave if you do that. Make an impression! best of luck!
