rush rules for sororities
by: hiiiiiI'm an incoming freshman and I plan to go through sorority rush. I see a lot of posts saying you have to get to know people before rush to get a bid. Is that just for frats, or is that true for girls too? I thought we weren't supposed to do that and I dont want to make a mistake and then not get a bid.

It is largely true for frats at least for the top houses. 80-90% of a PC will be kids already known by members of the house. For sororities it is much different as the process is much different. The biggest thing for sororities is having a good social media presence and not doing anything in first semester that would ruin your chances.

You can be friendly and talk to sorority women you meet in your classes or on campus, but don't ask a lot of pointed questions about recruitment that make you look pushy or pick-me. Don't follow a ton of random upperclassman sorority women on Insta if you don't know them just because you want to get noticed. (I personally think following the actual sorority's social media is ok, but some have mixed feelings on this. And you should probably be selective and only follow a couple, or follow them all.) Most important thing is don't be notorious. You don't want to be "known" in a bad way. Be careful about where you go and what you do before January. It only takes getting blackout and being stupid at a frat house once to tank your whole rush experience. And it happens more than you'd think. Just use common sense and don't be sloppy and you'll probably be ok.
