It depends, if you don’t know someone in the house you reach out to, they will probably look at you very superficially, i.e. looks, how you dress etc. But if you do know someone, I would recommend it. This way they could possibly vouch (or not vouch, but that’s usually only if you’re really weird) for you and increase your chances of getting a bid. Either way connections and contact play a big role, so it can’t really hurt your chances unless you’re a social outcast.
