How does being a legacy work?

So what dies it mean to be a legacy? Does it have to be a parent from the same house at IU, or could it be same frat different school? Or even grandparents/uncles?

Parents and brothers qualify you as a legacy, doesn’t have to be a graduate from the same school you’re attending
