question for girls in greek life

by: sororitys

im honestly wondering- how has the ranking system/rush affected you self confidence? i can't imagine being ranked based on my physical attractiveness and then 'labeled accordingly'. many deny placement based on attractiveness but if there's something i've learned from this site, it definitely plays a big factor

Rankings only aftect insecure shallow people. If it really gets to you that much you need to work on yourself

I agree with "Truth". The women that have strong self esteem to begin with, see the process through not allowing labels to deter their desire for sisterhood. I think this process is harder on those who are naturally shallow and/or insecure. Those women drop from the process rather than join a "middle" or "lower" tier house are probably scarred for life.

I'm an pretty girl in a lower-tier house that is not known for having pretty girls, and I'd have to say that IDGAF what the rankings say about me. I know how I look, and I like the way I look. Someone's ranking isn't going to change the fact that I'm attractive.

I've had people seem surprised by the house I'm in, which is strange to me. I joined through informal recruitment and only rushed one house because I knew sisters and genuinely wanted to be in the house I am in. So the assumptions that are made about why I'm in the house I'm in are annoying.

What really sucks are the assumptions that are made about my and my sisters' personalities. Looks are superficial and all you need to do to combat a looks stereotype is show up. Like I said, IDGAF about that. What I don't like are the assumptions that we are less affable than other houses on campus. This is a stereotype that is not easily deflected. It also affects the interactions we have with girls during recruitment, with girls expecting they'll have bad conversations and then interactions with us from their end feed into that. And it's not even true if you get to know the girls in my house--my sisters are some of the kindest, most genuine, most compassionate, most wonderful people you would ever meet.
