was rush this year really that bad?
by: just wonderingI’m a pnm going through recruitment right now and a lot of girls I know got dropped by a lot of houses/dropped out of rush altogether. a lot of them are complaining how rush this year was super brutal, but I know rush at IU is just generally really hard. was this year actually any different/harder than other years?

Not at all. In fact the numbers are looking like this year was a little better than last year. The only reason people don’t get bids is because entitled cry babies drop when they’d rather be a GEED with no friends than join lower tier houses. If this is you have fun sitting in the dorms thinking you’re special! Your friends in houses will forget about you within the week

Not really any different than the past few years. The only wild card in this years was the Chi O drama removing 1 house from the potential list of those who still had them. IU rush is just brutal in general and always has been. Be glad they still don't use the bed quota system, this is a walk in the park compared to those days.

Every year this question gets brought up. Here's how it used to be.
Back before even the seniors time, there was a bed quota system, which allowed some houses to be super selective and some not so much. For instance, houses like Theta Phi Alpha took 70-80 girls, while houses like Alpha Phi took 30.
In fact, the year I rushed, way back in 2014, rush lost a whole round of recruitment due to IU closing because of a snowstorm. That meant 21 houses went to 12, 12 to 3 (Pref used to be 3 rounds) and 3 to 1. Philanthropy and Sisterhood round were combined that year. The cuts were awful, and over 1,000+ women were without a bid or an opportunity to join a sorority at all. Most were not voluntary dropping either. Half of my floor didn't get a bid.
Now, it's all 50 minimum or more per house, and a pref round of 2, and more time at the houses, and you have a much higher chance of getting the houses you bid for after pref, and an easier rush overall. So when you see your friends dropping because they don't want the houses that they got back - let them. They are losing out and could have it so much worse than you all do. And not only that.... they're losing out on the best experience they could ever have at IU.
Be thankful you got what you did this year. And have fun tomorrow at Bid Night!

trust the process ... if you didn't get the bid for the house you wanted it's because the girls didn't think you are the right fit. it's not just one girl determining this. any chapter at IU is a winner. you'll make friends and enjoy your experience as long as you have an open mind. side bar - rush is brutal every year only difference this year chi o is out of the running.

This 1000 times! "goodness" speaks the truth. The girls that are in their rooms crying right now did it to themselves because they have low self esteem and can't imagine not being adored by the "top" friend group on campus. Get over yourselves! Seeking a sisterhood is far more than trying to get into the "popular" crowd. If you are too shallow to see that, then enjoy being a GEED. This is how recruitment works. This year is no different. There are amazing women in every chapter on campus. Your options are brushing off your hurt feelings and trying to secure a bid via informal or hoping to find your people through some campus clubs.
