best activities for fun social girls not in sorority?

by: Seeking sisters

Unfortunately, I didn’t make grades. So I missed out this year as a freshman. I’m super social and have tons of friends still in the thick of recruitment. I want to rush as a sophomore, and hope I find my home then. In the meantime, what are the very best things for me to involved with on campus to find a great social group, and to improve my chances at a bid next year? Obviously, focusing on grades is number one.... but I want to connect with other fun, smart, social girls and make some new friendships. There are soooo many clubs and organizations... which do you recommend.

It all depends on what you like to do. IUDM has great committees. Find a club that is about your passion and go after it.

How low below grades are you? There are always 3-4 sororities that do open informal and accept lower grades during this process

How do I learn about informal opportunities? I looked online at IU Panhellenic— nothing there...

Check the instagrams of TPA, SK, DPHIE, and ASA! They’ll post information soon if they’re doing informal!

In the next few weeks, chapters that will be doing informal will post on their social media. You should be able to check Panhel's page on Facebook or Instagram for details. Right now, the focus is on finishing out formal, so give it a week or so. Dont expect there to be a lot of chapters. It's typically been ASA, DPhiE, TPA and maybe SK. All have great women and are great chapters. Good luck!

Continue the friendships with your friends who rushed and hopefully you'll get to know some of their sisters once they pledge. Not only can this help with recruitment next year, but you don't want to lose the friendships you've built. IUDM is a great way to get involved and meet lots of women both in and out of the Greek system. Student government and clubs are also ways to get out there and meet people. As to which clubs - it depends on what you like and enjoy. There's literally a club for almost anything! I rushed as a sophomore because I didn't make grades my freshman year. I ended up getting a lower mid tier sorority my sophomore year and love my chapter. Great friends, great sisterhood and lots of fun! Don't be swayed by tier crap! Good luck!

I joined IUSF (the student foundation) and I really like it. IUSF pretty much puts on Little 500 so it’s a great way to get involved with an event that is predominately Greek. The time commitment is pretty low and lots of IUSF members are in Greek organizations and they have a few social events every semester just to have fun and get to know everyone.

Try for a snap bid

Yes accept a snap bid from anywhere if you are offered one they are very rare! For most people though you can still check out open informal at a couple housed sororities even if you’re below a 2.8. If you feel like you bring a lot to the table aside from gpa one of those houses could definitely give you a bid through informal I’ve heard of girls getting bids even with less than a 2.0 if you play your cards right. Check out tpa and dpe for housed sorority options!

You have to actually go through recruitment in order to receive a snap bid…

Perhaps your activity should be studying and not worrying about how to get into a sorority. Just sayin'

As I stated, focusing on grades is number one. You have no idea why I didn’t make grades.... if you did you wouldn’t be so quick to judge. Also, if you read my post, you would understand that getting into a sorority isn’t as important as just meeting some other fun, smart, social girls and making new friendships. I’m sure there are many great people who are not in houses.... I’m new here. I’m seeking advise, and trying to make the best of my situation.. Thanks for the catty response... I’m sure putting me down made you feel great!

Since when is honestly being catty?? Yes, the truth hurts, but getting a 2.8 really isn't all that difficult. Other than catastrophic illness or death in the family during finals week, there really isn't much justification in getting below a 2.8.

I know everyone feels like their case is different and special, but in reality most chapters are looking for women who can be involved and have good grades. No one is trying to make you feel bad, we are just trying to get to look in the mirror and realize grades do matter.

WIUX is honestly pretty cool if you’re into music/media/radio. Open to anyone too
