Does anyone know what the supposed hazing was? Was the kid getting beat up or forced to eat live fish? In other words was it actually hazing? Or was it some BS like he had to clean the house and got yelled at?

But again, the question is on probation for what hazing.....IU's definition of hazing is so broad that every athletic team is guilty of hazing for requiring team members to show up for workouts........ROTC is guilty of hazing for having drill....etc....my chapter was once put under investigation for hazing because our "pledge period was too long" and we required pledges to attend study tables.

As for their nationals imposing the penalties, yes that is true but it is often at the behest of the university. No fraternity national organization wants to get the reputation of not working with the host universities. If IU calls your nationals every weeks saying you are a problem chapter on campus, your national will shut you down because they assume most uni s operate within reason....IU does not.

IU has had nearly all of its housed fraternities kicked off at some point over the last 20 years.....I think there are only 4 chapters that have not had some sort of suspension. Over the last two decades, ZBT, Sammy, Pike, Alpha Sig, Theta Chi, Beta, SAE, Delta Chi, Pi Kapps, Phi Delta, AEPi, Kappa Sig, Acacia, Sigma Pi, ATO, Phi Psi, Delts, and Sigma Nu have all been suspended. Compare that to other large Greek life campuses like Illinois, Penn State, Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Ole Miss and you will see that our numbers are way out of wack....It is possible our members are just so much worse than other campuses but I have a hard time believing it having attended parties at more than half those campuses. Having also interacted with our Greek life and Student Activities staff, I assure you that is where the problem lies.
