sophomores

by: Wondering

Did any sophomores get bids? I didn't receive a bid and am thinking of going through rush next year. Not sure if it's worth it going through as a sophomore or not.

I mean it all depends on the individual. I wasn't saying sophomores only got housed. I was saying the 3 that I knew did.

Chances are you will have the same choices next year that you had this year. Most of the sophs who got into houses didn't rush last year because of grades or they transferred in - and probably would have gotten those same houses had they been able to rush as Freshmen. There's always an exception, but generally that's how it is.

two of the sophomores I knew were rerushing after having being dropped as freshmen. they were super happy to get a bid where they did. it happens but you gotta keep an open mnind. i agree someone is not going to magically move up as a sophomore, but they can get a bid

You have a different attitude as a sophomore. Chapters that made you want to drop as a freshman all of a sudden are okay the 2nd time around. Chances are they would have gotten those chapters a year ago had they not dropped.

If you think your GPA will be above a 3.3 AND you'll be on an IUDM committee, in a business frat, WIB, or exec in at least one other club and you weren't any of these things as a freshman it could make you stand out significantly more as a freshman because you'll have good grades and extra curricular involvement, you'll show that you can balance life and add great stuff to the chapter

it depends on the person. my rhogam didn't get a bid her freshman year, so she rushed again sophomore year and got pi phi. just depends. don't stress :)

Unsure where the whole "its harder for sophomores" thing came about... I didn't receive a bid my freshman year and received one Tuesday night to somewhere better and happier than i could've even imagined last year. Sometimes people just need an extra year to acclimate to the school before Greek life, and i learned that rewardingly by going through it twice. Good luck!!

Some sophomores go an extra year of school so they are part of the house as long as freshman who graduate in 4

usually it is harder, because the sorority is incentivized to bid freshmen (more years in school, more $ for the national org)

You'll find out during your house's membership selection, but basically there is an advantage to being a freshman in the membership selection policies that my house follows (those policies come from nationals)

what @so,e is saying is that some sophomores graduate in 5 years...but this is not the norm. and also not something I'd personally advertise (unless you're transferring in and not all your credits transferred or you're doing a major change from like liberal arts to engineering or something where you actually need to spend 5 years)...planning to spend 5 years in college just makes you look kinda lazy

I'm pretty sure that a lot of houses give an advantage to freshmen in membership selection in some way because it's usually thought of as a given that recruitment is harder for sophomores

that doesn't mean it's impossible...it's just that if you are looking at the same two people and one is a freshman, a ton of sororities would give preference to the freshman and that's how their membership selection is set up
