how did you convince your parents to let you rush?

Trying to convince my parents to rush a frat as a Kelley (just got in) sophomore. Anyone that got really bad resistance, what did you do? Someone they know got hazed pretty badly at a southern school (his grades were terrible and he had to transfer). They are really strict by the way.
