Lyon College - LC Overview

  About Greek Life at LC

Lyon College is a small liberal arts school in Batesville, Arkansas, and the Greek system there reflects that smaller campus feel in pretty much every way. It's an intimate setup — a handful of fraternities and sororities, not dozens. The organizations currently active include Kappa Sigma, Tau Kappa Epsilon, and Zeta Beta Tau on the fraternity side, with Alpha Xi Delta and Phi Mu representing the sorority side through Panhellenic.

Because Lyon's total undergraduate enrollment is pretty small, the Greek community makes up a noticeable slice of campus social life just by existing. It's not a massive, sprawling system, but it doesn't need to be. Chapters tend to be close-knit, and that's partly just a function of the school's size — you're going to know people across organizations whether you want to or not.

Rush at a school like this tends to be a lot less formal and overwhelming than what you'd see at a big SEC or Big 12 school. It's more personal. You're not just a face in a crowd of hundreds of potential new members — the process is smaller and the chapters get to actually talk to people one-on-one.

Housing arrangements vary by chapter, and Lyon's campus structure means Greek life doesn't necessarily dominate a specific row or section of campus the way it might at larger universities. Philanthropy and community involvement are standard parts of chapter life, consistent with national organization expectations for groups like these.

Lyon has a strong identity as a school rooted in Presbyterian tradition and academics, and Greek life exists within that context — it's part of the social fabric, but the academic culture is front and center at this school.
