Monmouth University - MU Overview

  About Greek Life at MU

Monmouth University is a mid-size private school on the Jersey Shore, and its Greek system reflects that setting pretty well — it's present, it's active, and it's a real part of campus social life without completely dominating it the way you'd see at a large state school.

On the fraternity side, you've got IFC chapters including Phi Kappa Psi, Sigma Pi, Sigma Tau Gamma, Tau Delta Phi, and Delta Tau Delta. Sororities fall under Panhellenic and include Alpha Omicron Pi, Alpha Sigma Tau, Alpha Xi Delta, Delta Phi Epsilon, Phi Sigma Sigma, and Zeta Tau Alpha. Alpha Kappa Alpha also has a presence on campus, representing the NPHC. That's a solid mix of national organizations for a school this size.

Recruitment at a school like Monmouth tends to feel more personal than what you'd find at a Big Ten campus. Panhellenic formal recruitment typically runs in the fall and follows a structured round system. IFC recruitment is generally more informal, with interest events spread across the semester. Because the school is smaller, you're likely to actually get to know chapter members before you make any decisions, which a lot of people prefer.

Don't expect a traditional Greek Row here. Most chapters don't have dedicated on-campus houses the way you'd see at bigger universities. Social events tend to happen in reserved spaces on campus or off-campus venues, which is pretty typical for private schools in the Northeast.

Philanthropy is a consistent thread across chapters here. Organizations regularly put on fundraisers and awareness events tied to their national causes, and that community engagement is woven into how chapters operate throughout the year. Greek members are also visible in student government and other campus orgs, so there's decent overlap between Greek life and broader campus involvement.

Overall, this is a smaller, more close-knit Greek community where involvement tends to go pretty deep. The chapters that are here are genuinely active, and the community has enough variety across councils to reflect different interests and backgrounds.
