Should I rush this fall?

by: Anonymous

Hi, I’m an incoming freshman and I’m on the fence about rushing. I’ve always loved the idea of being in a sorority and the sisterhood of it, but I don’t wanna waste my time with rude people or shallow friendships. Could someone give me insight on if this is worth the time, money, and energy I would put into rushing. As of right now I plan on rushing and seeing where it goes, but besides that, I haven’t done much research on specific houses. Could someone let me know if it is worth it and if I were to not rush, would I still be able to easily make friends and be social?

Hey! If you're on the fence about rushing you should 100% do it! If it turns out to not be your thing then no problem, at least you gave it your best effort.
There's a lot of new experiences with freshman year. You'll meet a ton of people you like and some you don't on your dorm floors, first friend groups, etc. But I would encourage you to not let the fear of wasting your time with people you don't mesh with get in the way of how fun it is to meet the ones you do.
In complete honesty can you make friends and be social without being in a sorority? Absolutely. And being in one doesn't mean you can't have friends outside of the Panhellenic community. That being said, I'm really glad I rushed. I really have made the most amazing friends and I do owe it to my sorority because I would have never met them otherwise. Recruitment can be stressful so try and give yourself grace through it all. That being said, If I had to do it all over again I would in a heartbeat. Everyone says it, but go into recruitment with an open mind. Stay true to how you felt at each house, and look for the one that is right for you! You're going to do absolutely amazing and have so much fun during your freshman year!

Wow, thank you so much for all of your advice. It’s really reassuring. I just hate to let these stereotype of sorority girls being rude, rich, blonde girls stop me from being in a sorority. I’m not gonna lie, I’m more of a midsize girl and I don’t want to waste my time with fake people. I’m trying to meet my future bridesmaids haha. If you’re able to say what sorority you’re in that would be amazing but if not, I totally understand. This is definitely persuading me into rushing and seeing where it goes. To me it’s only $45 and if I like it, I can try to get a bid and join, but if not then it’ll be okay because I’m definitely a social butterfly.

Unfortunately I can't say what sorority I'm in with recruitment right around the corner! Although I so would love to! But I hope you enjoy all of the lovely people you meet and get to talk to! I know they'll have fun getting to know you too!

Okay well thank you for your help!! I did have a question, is it more common to wear a long or short dress for preference. I was thinking of wear a cute long dress that is semi-formal but I’ve seen a lot of tiktoks of girls in short dress, almost like homecoming dresses. I know that there will be a mixture of both long and short dresses but what is more common for this round?

They are equally as common. I know plenty of girls who wore a long a plenty that wore a short. Usually the short dresses were fancier that a typical mini dress.
