pref. 3 house and no bid

by: Sad

I am so sad that I went to preference at 3 houses and did not get a bid. Are there any other options for me to join a sorority at Michigan?

I am sorry my comment monopolized the thread started by a young girl who was hurt by the process. To her, I am indeed sorry. As I told my daughter and she has resolved, move on and realize your college experience can still be fun and wonderful. My dUghter is biomed and premed and she can now focus on her very demanding course work without all the pledging obligations interfering. And to the mom who thinks I am threatening. I am not. I think kids need to know the facts. My daughter judged sororities not by rep but by where she connected best. She maxed events and put down 3 sororities after pref.

And the mom who suggests that o would dissuade a kid to not do Michigan, you should think before you reply. I would denigrate the school. I would tell them that it's a great school but has a flawed Greek system. I would never tell my daughter to transfer either. She's there for school. Had I had prior knowledge, I would have simply advised her not to rush. I encouraged to and for that I feel guilty.

If a sorority places you high in their bid list but you put them down low, they may place you on side for consideration. Your number 1 places low on their list and meet quota, you get no bid. If the sorority who originally had you high on list but put you aside meets quota before considering you again, then you are out. This is cross bidding and works the same whether it's 2 or 3 on bid list

This is not how matching works. If you were high enough on a house's to get a bid, you would be placed there. That spot would not be taken by someone else unless you are placed in one of your higher choices. If you are not high enough on any house's list and you maximized your options, you would be added as a quota addition in one of the houses.

so, this settles it then, those 10 girls aren't telling the truth. if they pref'd 3 houses they would have been put into one of them.

The above answer is correct. Moms go over to Greek chat.com and pose this question and the regular posters will explain how you can't not end up with a bid if you wrote down three houses on your bid card. Also the rush counselors should not be telling the pnms not to write down a third. If all these girls dropped the attitude and got their "undesirable" thirds these thirds would turn into a stronger chapter and dispel stereotypes.

My daughter placed 3 sororities on her bid card. She did not get a bid. She was not quota plused or snap bidded either. She is not a pathological liar. Indeed upon further inquiry, some of her friends stated that they placed less than 3 on their card which I clarified in my comments above. Luckily, my daughter no longer cares or wishes to understand the screw up. She is doing her thing in Ann Arbor and loving it. She is done with Greek life. Reading this board, I think it's a blessing. Tiers based on looks. The kids putting each other down, then wondering why girls suicide bid to avoid social casting. What kid reads this and is comfortable being in a bottom tier? Or conversely, being accepted to a top tier simply because they met a prerequisite of hotness. It is indeed terrible. My daughter has nothing bad to say about sororities. I think they have the potential for good. But this website is poisonous.

no one's calling anyone liars, they just didn't tell the truth about rush :)
did you call UM panhel and ask yourself if quota wasn't pushed this year for this reason??

my daughter rushed last year and they had 400 more girls, everyone found a home. suicide bidding was a huge no no and extremely disrespectful to the houses and spirit of greek life all around.

by the way, she and all her friends are in different houses, top to whateveryouthink bottom is and they are all still close and could care less about hotness

Nobody wants a bad experience 1st semester Freshman year- as each day passes I hope you ladies realize a sorority is a small part of life at Michigan.
Open yourself up to all the possibilities now that you aren't saddled with the time commitment of greek life.
