UNI is a mid-size public university in Cedar Falls, Iowa, with around 10,000 undergrads, and the Greek system here reflects that scale — it's present and active, but it's not the kind of school where Greek life dominates the social scene the way it might at a Big Ten flagship.

The fraternities at UNI fall under the Interfraternity Council (IFC), and the sororities are governed by Panhellenic. You've got chapters like Kappa Sigma, Pi Kappa Alpha, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, and Sigma Phi Epsilon on the fraternity side, along with sororities including Alpha Delta Pi, Alpha Phi, Alpha Xi Delta, Gamma Phi Beta, and Alpha Sigma Tau. There's also Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, which is a music fraternity with a different focus than the social IFC chapters. It's a smaller overall system, so the community tends to feel pretty close-knit across organizations.

Recruitment happens in the fall for both fraternities and sororities. Panhellenic recruitment is more structured, with a formal multi-day process that moves through preference rounds and ends with bid day. IFC rush at a school this size is generally more casual — think meet-and-greet events, cookouts, and hanging out at chapter houses before bids go out. The process is lower-pressure than what you'd find at a larger state school.

Several chapters do have housing, either on-campus or just off it, which gives Greek life a physical presence on campus. That said, UNI isn't a school where Greek Row is the center of the universe on a Friday night. There are students deeply involved in their chapters, but plenty of others who are involved in other campus organizations and barely interact with Greek life at all.

Philanthropy is a real part of the culture here. Chapters regularly put on fundraising events throughout the year, and community service hours are taken seriously at both the chapter and council level. It's a consistent part of how organizations present themselves on campus and build their identities beyond social events.
