Rockhurst University - RU Overview

  About Greek Life at RU

Rockhurst University is a small Jesuit school in Kansas City, Missouri, and its Greek system reflects that intimate campus feel. With a handful of fraternities and sororities, this isn't a giant Greek scene, but it's a present one — and for a school this size, the organizations here have a real footprint on campus social life.

On the fraternity side, you've got Alpha Delta Gamma, Pi Kappa Alpha, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, and Beta Theta Pi operating under IFC. The Panhellenic side includes Alpha Sigma Alpha, Theta Phi Alpha, Zeta Tau Alpha, and Gamma Phi Beta. That's a solid mix of national organizations for a school with a small undergraduate enrollment, and both councils are active in coordinating recruitment and campus programming.

Rush at a school like Rockhurst tends to be more personal than what you'd find at a big state school. You're not walking through a packed Greek Row trying to get noticed in a crowd of hundreds. It's smaller, which means you actually get to know the members you're meeting. Formal recruitment happens through both IFC and Panhellenic, and informal interest often builds through campus involvement throughout the year.

Rockhurst doesn't have a traditional Greek Row with chapter houses lining the street. Most chapters operate without dedicated residential housing, which means the social and brotherhood or sisterhood experience plays out differently than it does at schools where chapters live together. Events, philanthropy work, and community building happen in other campus spaces.

Philanthropy is a consistent thread across chapters here, which fits with the broader Jesuit emphasis on service and community engagement that shapes Rockhurst's campus culture. Chapters regularly participate in service events and fundraising tied to their national organizations' causes, and that kind of involvement tends to be a meaningful part of what membership looks like at a school with this mission.

Greek life here occupies a defined space on campus — it's not the dominant social force you'd find at a large public university, but it's genuinely active and connected to the broader student community at RU.
