Alma College - AC Overview

  About Greek Life at AC

Alma College is a small liberal arts school in Alma, Michigan, with an enrollment that hovers around 1,400 students, and the Greek system reflects that intimate campus scale. There are a handful of fraternities operating under IFC and a matching set of sororities under Panhellenic. The organizations on the men's side include Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Sigma Chi, Tau Kappa Epsilon, and Theta Chi. On the women's side you've got Alpha Gamma Delta, Alpha Xi Delta, Gamma Phi Beta, and Phi Sigma Sigma. No NPHC or MGC chapters are currently active at Alma.

Because the school itself is small, Greek life ends up being a pretty visible part of campus social life. When a meaningful chunk of the student body is involved in just a few chapters, you tend to see those organizations show up across athletics, student government, and campus events. Rush at a school this size tends to be a more personal process than what you'd find at a large state university — you're getting to know people pretty quickly, and the chapters are getting to know you just as fast.

Alma has a strong tradition of community engagement and philanthropy, and Greek chapters generally participate in that broader campus culture. Expect chapter philanthropy events to be part of the social calendar throughout the year. The Scottish heritage of the college — yes, there are bagpipes at Alma — gives the campus a distinctive character, and Greek organizations tend to plug into that tight-knit community feel rather than operate separately from it.

Housing is worth knowing about going in. Alma doesn't have the classic Greek Row with large chapter houses lining a street the way bigger schools do. Chapters tend to use on-campus spaces for meetings and events rather than operating out of private houses, which shapes how the social scene works. It's a more integrated setup where Greek members live in the same residence halls as everyone else for the most part.
