Tucked in the foothills of eastern Kentucky, EKU is a mid-size regional university in Richmond that draws heavily from the surrounding Appalachian region and the greater Bluegrass State. The Greek system here is a real presence on campus without being the only show in town.

The system is organized across a few governing councils. IFC handles the traditionally white fraternities, Panhellenic oversees the sororities, and NPHC represents the historically Black fraternities and sororities — groups like Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta, Phi Beta Sigma, Iota Phi Theta, and others. That gives EKU a Greek community with more range than you might expect for a school its size. There are well over a dozen fraternities and sororities active on campus, covering everything from major national names like Sigma Chi, Pi Kappa Alpha, Kappa Alpha Order, Chi Omega, and Kappa Delta to NPHC chapters with deep roots in Black collegiate tradition.

Rush here runs pretty much like it does at most regional state schools. Formal recruitment happens each semester, and it's not the hyper-competitive, multi-day spectacle you'd see at UK or Ole Miss, but it's organized and chapters put real effort into it. NPHC intake tends to follow a separate process that happens more on the chapter's timeline.

Greek life is a meaningful part of EKU's social fabric, especially for members, but it doesn't dominate the campus the way it might at a flagship school with a massive Greek row. Most chapters are involved in philanthropy events throughout the year, and community service tends to be a consistent thread across organizations. Housing varies — some chapters have houses or designated spaces, but EKU isn't a school where everyone in Greek life is living on a defined row.

The overall feel is a close-knit system where chapters tend to know each other and the community is tight without being overwhelming in size.
