Lycoming College - LC Overview

  About Greek Life at LC

Lycoming College is a small liberal arts school in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, and with a tight-knit campus of a few thousand undergrads, the Greek system here is on the smaller side but still a real presence in campus social life. There are a handful of fraternities operating under IFC — Lambda Chi Alpha, Phi Kappa Psi, and Tau Kappa Epsilon — along with a Panhellenic council that includes Alpha Sigma Tau and Alpha Xi Delta. On the multicultural side, Lambda Sigma Upsilon and Mu Sigma Upsilon round out the active organizations, giving the community some council diversity you might not expect at a school this size.

Because Lycoming is a small residential campus, Greek life tends to be pretty visible even if you're not involved in it. Social events, philanthropy weeks, and chapter programming show up on the campus calendar regularly. It's not the kind of school where Greek life dominates everything, but chapters here do have a consistent presence and contribute to the overall social rhythm of the year.

Rush and recruitment at a school like this is generally a more personal process than what you'd see at a big state university. With smaller chapters, you get to actually know the people you're considering joining, and the process tends to be a lot less overwhelming. Formal recruitment for sororities typically runs through Panhellenic, while IFC fraternities often do a mix of formal and informal recruitment throughout the fall.

Lycoming doesn't have a traditional Greek row with chapter-owned houses in the way larger schools do. Chapters typically use campus-designated spaces or meeting areas rather than off-campus houses, which keeps the community pretty integrated into the broader residential campus experience. Philanthropy is a consistent part of how chapters engage with the Williamsport community and the campus at large, and that service component is a meaningful part of how most organizations operate here.
