Brenau University - BU Overview

  About Greek Life at BU

Brenau University is a small, historically women-focused private school in Gainesville, Georgia, and its Greek system reflects that identity pretty directly. There are no fraternities here — the entire Greek scene is made up of sororities, which makes sense given the school's roots as a women's college. The Panhellenic Council oversees the NPC chapters on campus, and there's also an NPHC presence, giving students a couple of different paths into Greek membership depending on what they're looking for in an organization.

The chapters represented include Alpha Chi Omega, Alpha Delta Pi, Alpha Gamma Delta, Delta Delta Delta, Phi Mu, and Zeta Tau Alpha on the Panhellenic side, along with Alpha Kappa Alpha and Delta Sigma Theta representing the NPHC. It's a smaller Greek community overall, but that's not unusual for a school of Brenau's size — the student body itself is pretty intimate, so the Greek system scales accordingly.

Panhellenic recruitment at a school like this tends to be more personal and lower-key than what you'd see at a big SEC or ACC university. Don't expect massive recruitment events with hundreds of women cycling through mansions on Greek Row. The process is more conversational, and because the school is small, you'll likely already know people in the chapters before you even go through recruitment.

As for housing, Brenau's Greek chapters don't have standalone sorority houses in the traditional sense — the campus setup doesn't really work that way. Greek life is woven into the broader campus experience rather than anchored to a specific row or neighborhood. Philanthropy is a consistent part of how the chapters stay active and visible, with each organization tied to its national cause. That community service piece tends to be a real throughline in how Greek life operates here.
