theta?
by: researching pnmhi! I'm a pnm in the class of 2021, and I'm really excited about joining a sorority in the spring! I've been trying to learn about all the different sororities, but the panhellenic website seems to be down, and when I looked at theta's website, most of the pages were blank, and there were no pictures in their picture gallery. Can someone let me know where I can find more (unbiased - I know this website probably isn't the best for pnms!) info, because none of the websites seem to be up to date. thanks!

hi!! I was checking out theta's instagram too, and noticed a few girls mentioned being totally dropped from recruitment. How common is this? What makes a girl get completely dropped? And if it happens to me, what are the chances I can still get into a sorority through like informal? Sorry if this sounds totally desperate but I just didn't think getting dropped from recruitment entirely was all that common but now I'm worried that it is!

hi! it's great to see that some PNMs are interested in theta! I just wanted to say how great it's been, especially if you don't want a traditional or typical sorority experience! I've loved getting the chance to have a hand in building the chapter, and we are definitely not like other sororities on campus! Also, please don't worry about things you see online. Most of our sisters didn't want to be in a typical sorority, which is why we joined theta instead of an established group on campus. Also, while we may not have the biggest online presence, that's because we're building from the ground up! So if you don't want to be like all the other sorority girls and want to have a big impact on your chapter, think theta!

I'm in a fraternity and I agree with that description or theta, the thing that annoyed me the most is how after they first colonized all the girls aligned their personalities to try and be more Panhellenic but in practice are acting like the aren't "the classic girls in sororities" and are somehow better for it. In general the arrogance that theta shows for no reason is no bueno

theta's correct; they're not like other chapters on campus. They keep self-ranking, saying that they'll be great once they formally recruit girls who aren't rejects from all the other chapters. but, since they're a brand new chapter, once they actually do formal recruitment, they won't have years of return rates for RFM (like the other chapters), so they WILL have to take more girls than all the other chapters. They will also need to COB in the fall up to total. I'd really encourage Thetas to learn about how Panhellenic works before they keep spreading lies and claiming to be better than other chapters, because tearing others down doesn't build them up, and PNMs will see through it.

I see a lot of Theta's PR as red flags that I would avoid if I were a PNM. Looking past all of this crap here, since no one knows exactly who/how many people are posting what, just looking at official Theta online presence, I'm put off by how difficult it is to find their tumblr, which hasn't been updated in over two months, and how their website also clearly hasn't been updated since they decided to colonize. Their facebook also hasn't been updated since April, and if you look at the grade comparisons, they have the lowest spring GPA of all panhellenic sororities, below the all-panhel, all-women, all-greek, and all-mgc averages. Not to mention the previously discussed issues. This is all public info and I would encourage Theta to take a look at these issues we've been mentioning if they want to be seen as a viable option here.

Theta clearly hears the concerns of PNMs coming from this site, because they have deleted the aforementioned posts from their instagram. Probably a smart move on their part, because even if every PNM doesn't read it here, it is a legitimate concern that they raised, even if it doesn't happen to the majority of PNMs.

Hi! It's not very common to get completely dropped, it's more common that girls will have higher expectations and drop all the chapters that are most likely to give them a bid. It's also very common for girls to drop recruitment before getting a bid. Two of my roommates went through rush and they got dropped from almost every chapter after the 2nd day. Since this year recruitment is in the spring, I don't think it will be very common for girls to be completely dropped. By then, PNMs will have already made relationships with girls in sororities. I wouldn't worry about it! Just make sure to meet as many sorority girls you can first semester.
