GREEK LIFE REFORM

by: fr

not sure if anyone else has giving this consideration. But potentially losing a frat and potentially weakening a sorority here at western will have many implications that will hurt greek life as a whole. We’re used to such toxicity and tearing each-other down that we fail to realize that we our hurting our own collective image. In the US, greek life as a whole is much more intertwined and collective. Where in fact working together and being a united front enhances overall recruiting and elevates greek life as a whole in the university. We had to stop kicking frats and sororities when they’re down. We have to recognize how one person doesn’t ruin an entire group of people. We can’t be hypocritical as this easily could have happened to anyone else. We have to stop the finger pointing. We have to support the victims and be a human being

The division and superiority complexes are built into the culture. Everyone wants to be better, hotter and cooler than the others, and this is a result of that. Hard to change when every four years the community basically resets and is influenced heavily by Western’s party / college culture.

My sibling was in a fraternity 6 years ago and said it was the same back then as it is now and these same concerns were brought up but because everyone moves on eventually nothing gets permanently addressed.

We’ve always had a sour reputation at Western and frankly it’s warranted based on everything that’s happened.

Say what you want but Pike is done and will have legal repercussions, while AGD might get suspended and is definitely done having mixers for the rest of the year. Stop trying to the undermine the situation.

The whole situation was irresponsibility from both parties which caused lifelong damages to the victims. Saying that only one person caused it is completely wrong. AGD and Pike are both finished

Bingo, doesn’t matter who poured the rubbing alcohol, people were injured at a private event under both of their names. Carelessness on both of their parts.

I feel for those injured and the stress caused by this. I hope both organizations, as well as the broader community learns from this and managing risk going forward.
