Queens College, City University of New York - QCCUNY Overview

  About Greek Life at QCCUNY

Queens College is a commuter-heavy CUNY school in Flushing, New York, and the Greek system here reflects that reality — it's a smaller, more intimate scene compared to what you'd find at a residential campus. That doesn't mean it's nonexistent, though. There are a handful of active fraternities and sororities operating on campus, and the students involved tend to be genuinely committed to their chapters.

On the fraternity side, you've got Alpha Epsilon Pi, Kappa Sigma, and Alpha Chi Rho. Sororities include Delta Phi Epsilon, Phi Sigma Sigma, and Sigma Delta Tau. These are all nationally recognized organizations with chapters across the country, so the letters carry recognition well beyond Queens itself. The Greek council structure here runs through IFC for the fraternities and Panhellenic for the sororities.

Because QCCUNY is a commuter school, there are no chapter houses. Members aren't living together in a Greek row situation — recruitment, events, and chapter life all happen on campus or off-site. Rush tends to be more low-key than what you'd see at a big state school, with interest events and tabling being common ways chapters connect with potential new members.

Greek life isn't the dominant social force on this campus the way it might be at a large residential university. Most students commute from across Queens, Brooklyn, and beyond, so the social fabric of the school is built differently. That said, the chapters that are here stay active through philanthropy events, social programming, and community involvement, and they've built consistent membership over the years despite the commuter dynamic.

The New York City setting also shapes things. Members have the entire city as their backdrop, so chapter events often extend beyond campus into the broader metro area. For students who do plug into the Greek community here, the city access makes for a different kind of Greek experience than you'd get anywhere else.
