University of Louisiana at Lafayette - ULL Overview

  About Greek Life at ULL

ULL is a mid-size public university in Lafayette, Louisiana, and the Greek system there reflects a lot about what makes that campus tick. Lafayette has its own strong cultural identity — Cajun country, good food, zydeco, football — and Greek life fits into that broader social fabric without completely dominating it.

The system is organized across a few different councils. IFC covers most of the traditionally white fraternities, and Panhellenic oversees the sororities on that side of things. The NPHC chapters — the Divine Nine organizations — also have a solid presence on campus, and they operate with their own intake processes and traditions that are pretty distinct from IFC or Panhellenic recruitment. You've got fraternities and sororities representing all of those councils, so there's a decent spread of organizations active on campus.

Formal recruitment for IFC and Panhellenic typically follows a structured process in the fall, with events spread over about a week or two. NPHC chapters do intake on their own timeline, which usually runs throughout the year and is more selective in how it works. If you're interested in an NPHC organization, expect a different experience than traditional rush.

Housing is a mixed picture at ULL. Some chapters have houses or designated spaces, but it's not like campuses where there's one long Greek Row that you drive past every day. The Greek presence is more distributed across campus life — you'll see it at events, philanthropy weeks, and around the student union rather than concentrated in one area.

Philanthropy and campus involvement are a real part of how these chapters operate. Chapters regularly put on events tied to their national causes, and Greek Week is one of the bigger moments on the annual calendar when the whole community comes together. Cajun football gamedays also tend to be a social anchor for a lot of these organizations during the fall semester.

Overall, this is a system where Greek life is one visible part of a larger campus social scene rather than the only game in town. Lafayette itself offers a lot, which means students tend to mix Greek involvement with everything else the city and campus have going on.
