usc greek life truth

by: curious

in complete seriousness, as this is something that will heavily influence my decision to attend usc, are people who aren’t insanely rich ostracized in Greek life (sororities particularly.) Yes, I come from a well-off family, but I’m no billionaire either. are girls picked solely on wealth, or do sororities consider other factors too? Additionally, if you’re not a celebrity’s kid or multi-billionaire, will you feel looked down upon? Honest answers would be very appreciated! Thanks :)

Wealth alone is hardly a factor since theres really no good way of finding it out just from rush alone. Its just that wealthy people tend to get along well with wealthy people because they share similar upbringings and life experiences, theres more to relate to. It is possible for someone who doesnt come from money to get along well with a wealthy group of ppl but its less likely than a rich person having that.

therein lies the problem...just ask the people who bought their way into the school...and then they think they are royalty and perpetuate these stupid rankings to fulfill their ego of thinkoing they really belong.

You will find good people at SC, it’s just that in Greek life the majority are wealthy stuck up kids. I think at a lot of high end private end universitys you will find that, but like I said there are down to earth people everywhere. The real question is if you are going to be comfortable in the area where it is located.

This is such a dumb troll post. Yes, there are wealthy people at USC, but most people here are normal, down to earth, real people, and Greek rank is full of them. You are obviously not someone who attends the school, so you might want to chill with the dumb stereotypes.

Get into USC then tell us that you're trying to decide.

Also, if you're deciding based on anything remotely having to do with Greek Life, you probably won't make it here.

hey I get it - that is the USC stereotype and like any there is a kernel of truth to it but way overblown. Its unfortunate we have these rich kids of celebrities who cheated and are bringing us all down. They do not represent us.

Sounds like you're already in and you must have had to commit by now...hope you said yes. USC is not as shallow as people want to make us. You will find your people here!

On no. I posted this yesterday, so I'm not a freshmen. I'm not a transfer because my concern wouldn't have anything to do with sororities, so if I weren't a troll, I'd be applying next year.

I admit I don’t know anything about the culture at USC which I why I ask. Coming from the east coast, California has a stereotype of being shallow and materialistic which I admit intimidates me, so I just wanted an honest response from a current student (so thank you!) Are you then saying people truly don’t care about how much wealth someone has here? (Greek like, forming friendships , etc.)

LA doesn't have any different stereotype than New York City or any other Big City on the East Coast. Unless you're from some tiny town in the middle of nowhere, LA is just another liberal big city and we knew that all the real big money is in New York.

One thing I'll tell you about East Coast and West Coast. People in both places think it's ridiculous to pick a school based on anything having to do with Greek Life.

Go finish high school and stay off this site.
