University of Southern California - USC Overview

  About Greek Life at USC

USC is a major private research university in the heart of Los Angeles, and its Greek system reflects that — it's sizable, active, and deeply woven into campus social life. The system is organized across multiple governing councils, including the Interfraternity Council (IFC), Panhellenic, the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), and the Multicultural Greek Council (MGC), which means there's a genuinely broad range of chapter types and communities represented on campus.

On the fraternity side, you've got the familiar IFC heavyweights — Sigma Chi, Phi Delta Theta, Pi Kappa Alpha, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Kappa Sigma, and more — alongside NPHC fraternities like Alpha Phi Alpha, Kappa Alpha Psi, Omega Psi Phi, and Phi Beta Sigma, plus MGC organizations like Lambda Phi Epsilon and Gamma Zeta Alpha. Sororities follow a similar pattern, with strong Panhellenic chapters like Kappa Kappa Gamma, Kappa Alpha Theta, Delta Gamma, and Pi Beta Phi, as well as NPHC sororities including Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta, and Zeta Phi Beta.

Most of the IFC fraternities have houses along or near 28th Street, which functions as USC's version of Greek Row. Panhellenic sororities don't typically have traditional residential houses the same way, though many chapters have chapter facilities or meeting spaces. The Row, as it's known, is a real focal point for social activity on weekends, especially during the fall semester.

Formal recruitment for IFC and Panhellenic chapters happens in the fall. IFC rush at USC tends to be a bit more informal and ongoing compared to the structured, round-by-round format of Panhellenic recruitment, which follows the standard Continuous Open Bidding process. NPHC and MGC chapters run their own intake processes on different timelines, typically separate from fall rush entirely.

Being Greek at USC carries real social weight on campus. It's not the only way to have a social life in LA — the city itself offers a lot — but chapters are heavily involved in philanthropy events, intramural sports, and campus programming throughout the year. USC also has a strong alumni culture, and Greek networks tend to connect into that pretty directly, particularly in industries like entertainment, business, and law that draw a lot of Trojans.
