IUPUI is a commuter-heavy urban university in downtown Indianapolis, and that context shapes pretty much everything about how Greek life works here. It's a smaller Greek community compared to what you'd find at a traditional residential campus, but there are active chapters across multiple councils, which gives the system more range than you might expect from a school with this kind of setup.

On the men's side, IFC chapters include Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Phi Kappa Psi, Tau Kappa Epsilon, Delta Sigma Phi, Phi Delta Theta, and Phi Gamma Delta. Panhellenic sororities include Alpha Chi Omega, Alpha Sigma Alpha, Delta Zeta, Phi Mu, Sigma Kappa, and Zeta Tau Alpha. The NPHC also has a solid presence, with Alpha Phi Alpha, Kappa Alpha Psi, Phi Beta Sigma, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta, Sigma Gamma Rho, and Zeta Phi Beta all represented on campus.

Recruitment here isn't the same as the big week-long formal rush you'd see at a flagship state school. Because so many students commute and work jobs while in school, the process tends to be more relaxed and spread out. Chapters do hold interest events and info sessions, but the intense, highly structured recruitment cycles common at places like IU Bloomington or Purdue West Lafayette aren't really the vibe here.

Housing is a real difference from a lot of other schools. Most IUPUI chapters don't have traditional Greek houses or a Greek Row. Chapters are still active — they hold events, do philanthropy work, and build community — but a lot of that activity happens in campus spaces or off-campus venues rather than in chapter houses.

Greek life at IUPUI tends to be more of a tight-knit involvement option than a dominant social force on campus. With Indianapolis right outside the door, students have a lot competing for their time and attention. The chapters that are active here tend to draw members who are genuinely committed, which makes for a more close-knit experience overall.
