Auburn University, Montgomery - AUM Overview

  About Greek Life at AUM

AUM is a smaller commuter-focused campus in Montgomery, Alabama, and its Greek system reflects that character — more intimate, more community-driven, and less tied to the sprawling Greek Row culture you'd see at a flagship school like Auburn's main campus in Lee County.

The organizations here span both IFC and Panhellenic on the historically white fraternity and sorority side, along with a strong NPHC presence. Fraternities like Lambda Chi Alpha and Sigma Alpha Epsilon represent the IFC, while sororities like Alpha Gamma Delta, Delta Zeta, and Zeta Tau Alpha make up the Panhellenic side. NPHC chapters including Alpha Phi Alpha, Kappa Alpha Psi, Phi Beta Sigma, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta, Sigma Gamma Rho, and Zeta Phi Beta are active here as well — the Divine Nine has solid representation on this campus.

Because AUM skews heavily commuter, Greek life functions differently than it does at a residential state school. There aren't dedicated chapter houses lining a Greek Row. Recruitment and intake happen on campus, but the experience is shaped around a student body that often works, has families, or commutes from across the Montgomery metro area.

Philanthropy and community service tend to be central to how chapters stay active and visible here. With a campus embedded in Alabama's capital city, there's no shortage of community engagement opportunities, and chapters lean into that. Social events happen, but the programming calendar is generally built more around service, stepping, and campus involvement than weekend parties.

If you're coming from a high school where Greek life meant massive recruitment weeks and frat houses, AUM will feel different. The system is smaller, the chapters are tighter-knit, and involvement tends to be more personal. That said, the organizations here are connected to some of the oldest and most established national fraternities and sororities in the country, so the networks and traditions behind them are anything but small.
