Troy University - TU Overview

  About Greek Life at TU

Troy University is a mid-size public school in southeastern Alabama, and its Greek system reflects that Southern campus culture pretty well. Fraternities and sororities have been part of campus life here for a long time, and the community spans both historically white and historically Black organizations, which gives the overall scene more range than you might expect at a school this size.

On the fraternity side, you've got IFC chapters like Alpha Tau Omega, Delta Chi, Sigma Chi, Lambda Chi Alpha, Tau Kappa Epsilon, Pi Kappa Phi, and a handful of others. Panhellenic sororities include Alpha Delta Pi, Alpha Gamma Delta, Chi Omega, Kappa Delta, Phi Mu, and Alpha Omicron Pi, among others. The NPHC is also well-represented, with all of the Divine Nine organizations present on campus — Alpha Phi Alpha, Kappa Alpha Psi, Omega Psi Phi, Phi Beta Sigma, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta, Sigma Gamma Rho, and Zeta Phi Beta all have active chapters here.

Formal recruitment happens each fall for both IFC and Panhellenic, following a pretty standard process you'd find at most Southern schools. NPHC chapters do intake on their own schedule, typically through their respective national processes. Troy isn't a massive flagship university, so the Greek community has a more close-knit feel — members tend to know each other across chapters, and involvement in philanthropy and campus events is pretty common across the board.

Housing situations vary by chapter. Some of the larger IFC and Panhellenic organizations have houses near or on campus, while others operate more out of designated spaces or meeting areas. Greek organizations here tend to be active in homecoming, step shows, and community service events throughout the year, which keeps them visible on campus even outside of social functions.
