regret not rushing panhel as a freshman/sophomore

by: pnm sophomore

I didn’t really understand rush my freshman year and ended up rushing a MGC sorority early sophomore year. I made it to the final round but didn’t receive a bid.

Since then, I’ve gotten to know some people in Panhel Greek life and really like the sense of community, so I’ve been considering COB or spring rush. I also feel like Panhel might be a better fit for me socially because of the larger chapter sizes.

This spring I reached out to a few Panhel sororities about COB. I submitted a COB interest form for one I’m especially interested in, but I haven’t heard back yet (it’s been less than a week), so I’m not sure if they’re still reviewing or if it’s a rejection.

I’m starting to feel a bit discouraged since I’ll be a junior next semester and worry I may have missed my opportunity. Is rushing as a junior realistic? And in general, what are common reasons someone might be unsuccessful with COB or rush?

Any insight is appreciated :)

Unfortunately most sororities that did COB are mostly finished handing out bids and also I know some houses don’t take juniors

Most houses are done with COB, you def can rush in the fall. I know a junior who rushed, she did get 2 houses she loved back for pref, but I know some houses will auto cut you for being a junior. Just a risk you will have to take, and you'll need to be very open minded

Might not be the advice you're looking for, but i almost guarantee that if you rushed as a freshman and soph, there were at least 3-4 houses that didn't drop you. While they probably aren't the "top houses" if you decided to drop both times, if you do want to join a sorority, you should give them a chance. There are incredible girls in every house, the ones that don't cut heavily during rush included, and some of them are still COBing. Give it a chance, see if you meet anyone you vibe with, and if you don't then drop and rush again your junior year, though it might be tough and you have to accept that. Rush is difficult and honestly traumatizing for so many girls, and you are not alone in your experiences.
