Most Competitive Rush EVER

by: Scared

With KKG opting out of formal recruitment this year, that leaves 9 sororities participating in this rush cycle, the smallest amount UNC has had in decades. If the trends from past years continue, this will also be the largest number of PNMs rushing. Ever.
Joining a house this year is going to be much more competitive than usual. And joining one of the Big Three is going to be cut-throat.

Good luck to all of the Chi O hopefuls out there. Y'all got this!

I think some of non Top 3 sororities will be taking much larger pledge classes this year. So unless you are dead set on XO, KD, or DDD, I wouldn't stress too much it should be fine.

I mean they all have to take the same size pledge class. Non top 3 can’t just take more than top 3 bc they want to. Only time pledge classes are diff sizes are when not enough girls pref a certain house

also totally forgot to add — I know this seems so random but a real issue facing the houses is that their fire code restrictions simply cannot accommodate our ever increasing pledge class sizes. At some point, these houses legally will not be able to hold all their members at once which causes a bunch of issues.

That right there is one of the dumbest comments about rush ever. Quota and RFM and membership totals are never going to be restricted by building capacity and fire codes.

As a recruitment chair in the past 3 years I promise you this is actually something that came up in discussions about growing pledge class sizes. Fire code would not allow us to have all our members at chapter or any indoor event at the house.

Yeah but fire codes aren't going to affect new member class size or quota or make rush more "competitive", which is the topic of this thread. The solution for the fire code issue is to open for sorority expansion in order to decrease membership sizes AND/OR to add on to chapter houses.

RFM is the system in place and it's not going to change this year. Or probably next year either, what's the alternative? Larger numbers of pnm's means larger nm classes, not more competition for spots; there is not a certain number of spots.

KD ends up giving snap bids ever year so you’ll be ok if you want them. That’s why they have a clump of randos

All the sororities have pretty, smart, fun girls. Youll be happy wherever you fit. And don’t let any mouthbreathers tell you where you’re “ranked.” They are all good but different.

Let’s clear up some things in this thread.

Yes only nine chapters are participating in formal recruitment this year. And yes this could be one of the biggest years for PNMs. But that does not mean rush will automatically be more competitive. Panhellenic adjusts quota and release numbers each year to help ensure PNMs are matched fairly and every chapter gets a balanced class.

The Big Three talk is mostly opinion. Some people claim certain chapters are more competitive but that changes depending on who you ask. There is no official ranking and every chapter has strong, involved members and great sisterhood. Recruitment is about finding the right fit for you not chasing a label.

Pledge class sizes are usually similar across chapters but not always exactly the same. The final number depends on how many PNMs rank a chapter and how many matches it receives. Chapters with strong retention may take fewer new members if most of their members stay active through graduation.

Bottom line is you do not need to stress over the so called top houses. There are amazing women in every chapter and plenty of opportunities for leadership involvement and friendship. Focus on where you feel seen and supported

Good luck to everyone going through recruitment this year!

These are the facts. The other stuff on this thread is ignorant ramblings and coming from someone who knows absolutely nothing about how recruitment is actually conducted. There is not a set number of spots at the beginning of recruitment, quota is set after pref, all houses will take quota and some will actually take more than quota due to Quota Plus, more pnm's going through means more will be carried at every round and there will be more bids, everything is percentage based and not on hard numbers, numbers are adjusted at every round as needed to ensure the maximum opportunity for a bid, and there is nothing special in recruitment about what some people call 'top' houses because 'top' is an opinion and it depends on who is giving their opinion. And the fire code comment is just ridiculous, no organization will restrict its membership for that. The recruitment system is designed to place as many pnm's with a sorority as possible, not to get rid of them. Recruitment will be larger but not different in any other way.

UNC isn’t adding more sororities because the administration does not want to make accommodations or expand Greek life. They do not see the benefits and only focus on the negative aspects like exclusivity and past incidents. Instead of supporting growth or recognizing the strong communities within Greek life, they continue to push reform and limit involvement.

You don’t know what you’re talking about. We have a vote every single year to bring a new chapter and the current chapters vote. It hasn’t passed since alpha phi because our panhel community is so weak. We have lost 2 Panhellenic chapters and 1 non-Panhellenic partner chapter (only participated in the first round of recruitment each year) in the past 5 years. We are not a strong campus to bring chapters into.

Based on my experience in Greek life leadership, the university is definitely not against expansion. Like the other commenter said, we do vote (with permission by OFSL) to expand every year but it’s the chapters who vote no, not the school.
