Rider University - RU Overview

  About Greek Life at RU

Rider University is a mid-size private school in Lawrenceville, New Jersey, and its Greek system reflects that scale — it's a smaller, more intimate community compared to big state schools, but it's genuinely active and covers a solid range of councils and organizations.

On the fraternity side, you've got IFC chapters like Sigma Phi Epsilon, Tau Kappa Epsilon, and Theta Chi, along with NPHC and multicultural representation through Kappa Alpha Psi and Lambda Theta Phi. Sororities follow a similar spread — Panhellenic chapters including Alpha Xi Delta, Delta Phi Epsilon, Phi Sigma Sigma, and Zeta Tau Alpha, plus NPHC organizations Delta Sigma Theta and Zeta Phi Beta. That mix of IFC, Panhellenic, and NPHC presence means the Greek community here isn't one-dimensional.

Rush and recruitment tend to feel pretty accessible at a school this size. You're not dealing with massive intake classes or cutthroat COB processes like you'd find at a large state university. It's easier to actually get to know people during the process, and chapters are generally looking to build real membership rather than just hit numbers.

Greek life at Rider isn't the dominant force on campus that it might be at a school with a huge Greek Row or heavy football culture — Rider competes in the MAAC and doesn't have football, which changes the social calendar significantly. That said, chapters are still involved in campus events, philanthropy efforts, and programming throughout the year. Each organization tends to have its own signature philanthropic focus, which is pretty standard across the Greek world, and those events are usually open to the broader campus community.

Most chapters don't have traditional standalone houses — this is typical for a school of Rider's size and setup. Social events and chapter life tend to revolve around on-campus spaces rather than a dedicated house or row. It gives the system a different feel than what you might picture from bigger school Greek life, but chapters still maintain strong identities and member networks.
