letters of rec

by: UIUC

How I'm important are letters of rec for formal sorority recruitment at Illinois? I've heard that they're not a main factor of getting a bid from a house

we are all in different sororities, so a pnm can get a rec to some of the houses but not all. so any % would be a guess. there are a lot of houses on campus if you maximize your options and don't drop out because you don't like your invites you should get a bid. the pnms who drop out do so because they view the houses left on their list as undesirable. a better way to look at it is wanting a house that wants you. if you're going to be picky and super selective than you need to approach rush in a more competitive manner.

a rec won't guarantee a bid but it is always a positive rather than a negative.
i am in a house that is considered highly selective and recs are the norm.
at least 85% have recs not 20 or 25%. but we prefer personal recs not the random ones you get from your area panhellenic. the best recs are the ones that make me notice you, you would be amazed at how great some of these personal recs can be.
