What are some of the biggest mistakes that you can make dueing rush, and what are some of the biggest positives to ensure a bid?

Biggest mistake: skipping parties, and not giving each house respect and a chance.
How to ensure a bid: be a socially functioning human and MAXIMIZE YOUR OPTIONS!!!! (aka no suicide bidding)

A big mistake is to let the self-appointed (and totally anonymous) "rankers" on this site to influence which fraternities or sororities you consider for membership. Look for people you really connect with. The houses that have the most accomplished and confident memberships could really care less about the sophomoric "rankings." They already know that their organization is respected and will add a lot to anybody's experience at Illinois both socially and professionally. So, they look for people that think the same way. And, that's why they stand out.
