what's the real truth about rushing a sorority as a so

by: anon

I'm a freshman who dropped from rush last fall (stupid idea) and am looking to rush again in the fall. I've heard a number of discouraging things like that houses don't take many sophomores, that some houses will immediately drop you for being a soph, or that it's a lot harder to get into a house that you like. Freshman year wasn't horrible as a geed because I was bar legal and had a lot of friends in houses that took me out to their events and pgs but I definitely don't want to be one anymore. A lot of my friends are 20's in houses (AXO, theta, DG, gphi, KKG, aphi) and say they're going to put in a good word for me during rush in the fall but how much will that really help if houses aren't fond of sophomores formal rushing? I feel like I'm an outgoing girl and obviously love going out I'm just a little nervous that rush will be extra difficult as a soph or that I won't find a house I fit into. Just wondering if it's worth it to rush again and if what I've heard about sophomore formal rush is true. Any advice good or bad is appreciated, thanks!

How far into the recruitment process did you progress? Sometimes once a sorority chapter drops you from invite list you'll always be dropped, no second chance. If that is the case at the house(s) you liked last year (and you'll never know unless you're an initiated member) you will be making a different choice this fall. Recruitment is what you bring to it. Try again by all means--it is worth it!--and bring your calm attitude, your good grades, and a winning smile.
