The College of New Jersey - TCNJ Overview

  About Greek Life at TCNJ

TCNJ is a mid-size public liberal arts college in Ewing, New Jersey, and its Greek system is a genuine piece of the campus social fabric without completely dominating it. The school draws a lot of academically focused students from across New Jersey and the tri-state area, and that context shapes what Greek life looks and feels like here.

There are several councils operating on campus. The Interfraternity Council (IFC) and Panhellenic Council oversee the more traditional fraternities and sororities, while the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) and Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) represent a solid range of historically Black and multicultural organizations. That spread means the system isn't just one type of Greek experience — chapters like Kappa Alpha Psi, Delta Sigma Theta, Zeta Phi Beta, Lambda Theta Phi, Delta Epsilon Psi, and Chi Upsilon Sigma all have a presence alongside the more conventional IFC and Panhel chapters.

Recruitment varies by council. IFC and Panhellenic typically run structured recruitment processes in the fall, while NPHC and MGC chapters often use interest meetings and intake processes on their own timelines. TCNJ doesn't have a traditional Greek Row with chapter houses lining the streets — most organizations operate without dedicated residential houses, so Greek life here is more event- and community-driven than house-party driven.

Philanthropy is a real part of the culture. Chapters regularly run fundraisers and community service events throughout the academic year, and those events are often open to the broader campus. Greek organizations also tend to be well-connected with student government and other campus groups, so there's a fair amount of crossover with the wider TCNJ community rather than a hard separation between Greek and non-Greek social life.

The system is active enough that you'll notice it around campus, especially during the first few weeks of fall semester, but TCNJ's identity isn't built around Greek life the way it might be at a large state school. It's one thread in a broader campus culture that also centers academics, club sports, arts, and student organizations.
