Is Rush Worth It and Bullies
by: HBe honest: is it worth rushing at smu? I don’t have connections and am not super outgoing but I really want to find my people in college. I also heard recruitment takes a mental toll on pnms. Also do you experience any toxicity or bullying in Greek life? What is it like?

You do not need connections to get a bid at SMU. They do help but they aren't the only thing; chapters are looking at everyone to find the potential members that fit with them. It's all about fit.
Rush is hard at every school because the chapters have the final word, not you, so that's different than in high school where you can just join something if you meet the requirements. SMU is not worse than any other rush, but most people do find rush stressful.
Bullies are everywhere no matter what. With Greek life being a close community, the best and worst people are more in your face. But you don't stand alone in Greek life, that's the point, you'll have your posse to stand with you. You won't like everyone in your house; some you love, most are just fine, and some you can't stand.
The pluses of finding your tribe far outweigh the stress of rush and the initial navigation of finding your niche within your new house.

What if you don’t end up in a house? How hard is it to find your people? Also what about rushing again as a sophomore?
