Rush for the “middle tier” sororities?
by: ARank doesn’t matter but for the sake of the title. How hard is it to rush Tri Delt, Chi O, and DG? How do they pick girls usually?
#1by: Priorities
How they pick is most apparent in the first round where the chapters' priorities decide the pnm's they will carry to Philanthropy:
- Grades and involvement houses - DDD, XO, DG, AXO (you need a good GPA and resume to get past the first round and where you are from and who you know are not as important, these houses want quality members)
- Connections-only houses - PBP, KKG (if you aren't from certain high schools you won't be considered and they have the lowest grades and involvement but really don't care)
- Still building because they're new - ADPi (but still will not take just anybody for the sake of numbers, they will probably end up being one of the grades/involvement houses)
- There are no bottom houses here, and "mid" vs "top" is purely personal opinion based on how your priorities align with the chapters' priorities.
Don't get your sites set on any houses until you get your Philanthropy schedule back to see where you will actually be rushing in person. The in-person rounds are based on best fit with the vibe of the chapter and how your conversations go, as well as the way you present yourself in appearance and poise. All chapters have gorgeous fun girls.
#2by: GPA
What is a "good" GPA. The panhellenic guidebook lists the minimums for each house and they're all 3.0-3.3 (and it said the average GPA for PNMs last year was 3.4 - I'm assuming these are high school GPAs since recruitment is now in the fall). If you have over a 3.4 (and jobs, clubs, service in high school) will that put you in good standing or are those "grades/involvement" houses looking for higher GPAs like 3.7-3.8?

These responses are dated. Not correct at all. Pi Phi is not a connections only house anymore. They don’t even pull girls from Dallas. They take a lot of out of town girls and a fair amount of California girls. You do not need connections for this house. But you definitely need connections and they already know who is going to be on their bid list before recruitment begins.

by: GPA depends
It depends where you fall within the pool of the pnm's going through recruitment. If your GPA is substantially lower than the average then you would be at a disadvantage, so it just depends on what shows up this year. But any chapter will take a lower GPA than their 'minimum' if there is something else exceptional in a pnm to balance it out. A 3.4 with involvement should be just fine this year and give you choices for Philanthropy, and that's really the only time you need to worry about it. After that it's about the in-person rounds.
You also have to keep in mind that every chapter is given the number of pnm's they can invite back to each round by panhellenic. These numbers are based on percentages of the number of pnm's in the process and are adjusted at each round. The chapters rank their pnm's and then panhellenic assigns their number and the pnm's that are above that cutoff will be invited to the next round.
