is smu really this divisive?

by: high school

As an accepted student, trying to decide on a college, I'm concerned with how divisive Greek life seems here. Do top tiers really look down on and not socialize with lower tiers? Does your house really determine your status on campus? Are people commonly friends with those in other houses? How do GDIs fit in?

Everyone seems to love the organization they're in and they're all great. People have friends in all of the houses but best friends are often in the same house because they do so many fun things together. I think it's better to be in a house than not, because you do develop close friendships and there's always something going on. You have to realize that only about 10 people post rankings or negative things on this site - and they are the worst of Greek and at SMU in general. Unfortunately freshman don't know this and they believe what they see on here

Somewhat, being in certain houses definitely carries a certain stigma and will naturally lead to spending less time with other houses of higher or lower ranking.
