srat rush as a sophmore
by: sophI'm rushing as a sophomore after dropping before pref last year. I have interacted with lots of actives in a variety of srats. Would this increase my chances to get more invites for rounds? I specifically have a lot of connections to one of the top srats (not aphi) and thats the one i really want but I do have an open mind to a few other choices. I really don't want to be hazed but want to run home to somewhere with a decent reputation (so top-upper mid only). Any tips to maximize my rush experience since I already have a disadvantage as a sophomore?

I rushed as a sophomore and I’ll be brutally honest, it all depends on who you are tbh you can have friends in a top sorority, that doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll make the cut, they can vouch for you but the chapter as a whole needs to decide they like you. You need to be open minded, it sounds like as of now you have a top house in mind and aren’t considering much of the others and that really should change if you want a good rush experience. Also, going through it again after going through it once, sometimes won’t change much, if a house wanted you they would’ve taken you the first time. I don’t wanna say you won’t get it and honestly go for it but, make sure you are doing it for good reasons, not because you want one house. Also you’re gonna be hazed, every sorority and frat and org here hazes in their own way, it’s not that bad don’t worry.

I'll be completely honest as someone whose suitemate rushed as a sophomore. Sophomores technically have the same chance as the freshman on paper. However top srats prioritize having all freshman so when my suitemate was rushing she really had just upper mid to bottom level houses to choose from. those srats aren't bad of course and she loves the house she ended uo with but its rare to get a sophomore in a top or low top house. I'm technically in a top house and even though I would have loved to have my suitemate join, our board was focused on freshman

first off, not every org here hazes and hazing should be taken seriously. secondly, my whole reasoning for rushing is to have a connection to alumni from all chapters of the sorority post grad, i could gaf about parties. Unfortunately, the top national orgs are basically the same as the top-upper mid houses here at psu.
On your point about "who you are" and "if a house wanted you they would’ve taken you the first time", I have changed so much since rush last year and hold a top leadership role with a org that has a lot of greek members in it. I really hope that the changes I have made greatly improve my rush experience.
