why is greek life blamed so harshly?

by: Why

Yes there have been tragic hazin deaths over the years. I am not looking to belittle these in any way, but if you look at a record of who’s died at Penn state over the years, there are more deaths from getting alcohol poisoning at bars or apartment parties or falling off balconies from alcohol. Yes, alcohol hazing is bad, that’s no question, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t have a pledge process. Pledging is an important part of the system that actually DOES bring people closer together.

People often look to organizations to blame and make them scapegoats. But I’d say there’s a difference between a kid choosing to drink too much at an apartment party and a kid being forced to drink too much at a frat
