size matters

by: Beaver

If you wonder why certain houses fall higher in the social pecking order, you should take a look at their size. This has far more to do with why one is ranked higher than the "quality" of their members.

The frats that are considered "better" tend to have more members (except for a few that are rebuilding like Sig Chi, TKE and DU who will be back to where they were a few years ago pretty quickly).

The top half of houses DChi (97 bros), BSB (77), Sig Chi (41), Pike (96), Acacia (114), ATO (98), Lambda (70), Sig Ep (83), DU (44), TKE (49), Sig Pi (77), Phi Psi (68), AGR (101), Phi Who (63), TDX (75), FIJI (80), Kappa Sig (93), Far Sig (62) and Chi Phi (78) have more members than the other 16 chapters which go as low as Treehouse with just 12 members.

This group of chapters pretty much matches the number of sororities on campus so it makes for easy pairing.

Since the ranks are based on socials and since the average sorority has 140 members, it makes sense that these are the houses that sororities prefer to social with. Honestly, 140 girls don't want to show up at a party with a chapter of 22. The more popular chapters have more members to create relationships with.

That is not to say that the other houses are in some way inferior. Some people prefer a smaller more intimate chapter than these bigger ones. Some people would prefer to have a social with 50 people between their chapter and a smaller dance troupe than being packed in with 400. That is all okay. There is very little difference between the "quality" of the men or women. It really is all about size.

Let's stop acting like people in these larger chapters are somehow "better" than the guys in the smaller houses. There is a reason that the social experience is different and it has nothing to do with looks.

It's not just size. Quality along with size is how you distinguish the top fraternities. Also, you have to take into consideration their grades, thon records, athletic records, alumni network and socials. Not to mention their partners for homecoming and thon aswell. This post is just 1000 characters too long for a point that is incomplete anyway.

I think you missed the point. Don't think so highly of yourself because you can social with sororities and other houses social with clubs/orgs. It has less to do with you as an individual and your charisma than it has to do with your appeal as a larger organization.

The presumed "Top" houses like DChi, BSB and Pike fall very much in the middle of the pack for grades. Whereas houses a tier or two below consistently do better. Stop thinking you are somehow superior than everyone in those other houses because you aren't.

You might wanna look at the scorecards before you mock top tier grades buddy. Also, it’s fair to say that quality looks at the whole organization. People wanna see themselves with kids who are like them as a whole organization.

The grades are available on the Greek scorecard. This post is based on facts, not speculation. You should take a look.

You make it sound like these “made up” rankings are put together by some Penn State “official”. When anyone and that could be a 16 year old kid in Idaho or anyone can just type up a list and post on this site. That’s all it is! Forget about these lists!
