thon is kind of a scam

Sooooo thon is kind of a scam. Yes all donations go to Hershey (after a 10% cut that Hershey takes to pay for staff), but think about how much money Penn state makes over the weekend. If everyone spent an average of $30 this whole weekend, then the bjc made somewhere in between 4-5 million dollars (half the total amount raised). For thon All staff in the bjc are volunteers, they overcharge for food because it’s a captive audience, and a lot of stuff from the acts to the subway food for the dancers is sponsored. I think it’s a great event but Penn state makes bank every thon weekend and it’s kind of messed up :/

Been thinking about this, it’s not that THON is a scam it’s just that Penn State makes money off of our volunteer efforts. Similar to how they profit off of student athletes, it’s unfair but it shouldn’t take away from anyone’s opinion of THON
