Alpha Phi - ΑΦ Sorority Ratings at SIUE

I am very disheartened to see the lack of diversity and change in alpha phi since I have been a member. The DEI chair the past few years has been white, and I have scrolled down to a year and there are no people of color whatsoever in any of the posts. The occasional olive toned girl with black hair is seen. I don’t even know if there is a DEI chair anymore. But honestly maybe it’s a good thing. When I was in alpha phi as a brown girl, I always felt like a token, and there was no subtlety to it either. I was invited to the photo shoots and pulled in to many pictures so that they had their token of diversity. When they asked me to send in a picture and I didn’t send one in, they would post a picture of another POC girl, almost as if they had to reach a quota of posts for POC girls. Other than the lack of diversity, there were several cliques within the sisterhood, and if you were not in that friend group, you would not get the time of day. There is a weird tension and sense of competition within the cliques, so a lot of drama and passive aggression during my time in alpha phi. The advisors don’t help with this at all and almost flame these aggressions and play into the cliques as well, as if they’re playing girls in college too. During my time in alpha phi, I saw so much potential in this sisterhood, and we did have so much beautiful diversity and amazing girls in the organization, but the way things are done in the background was so unspeakable and depressing that I had to leave. I hope things change and that alpha phi promotes leadership, diversity, and sisterhood in a healthier way. I did find friends within the sisterhood, but no thanks to how it was set up.

This sorority is known for being rude and mean girls. They are one of the top ones, but recruit off looks and money. They do raise a lot of money, but only because they charge a lot to go to their events. When they lost one of the competitions, they made it known they felt they should win. Just not a super welcoming environment.

During recruitment week, it felt so cliquey. The girl I talked to, looked like she didn’t even want to talk to me. I looked around the room and there was also no diversity whatsoever and I was immediately rejected the next day. I know only two girls that are very sweet, nice, and amazing in the sorority. Not only that but for COBS, they finally accepted their like first POC which was shocking to everyone cause you wouldn’t expect that.

The best kinda of girls!! All girls have hearts of gold;) very involved in campus life and super smart girlies!

The sweetest girls I met. They were very welcoming and seemed like they would be amazing friends. These girls are so pretty and seemed so smart.

They have an amazing gpa average and great fundraising for their cause. This sorority has girls that are ambitious and driven.

Everyone I’ve met is so nice and supportive, everyone on here is just mad! They made me feel so at home during recruitment and I still talk to some of the girls

I love it, the girls are super nice and welcoming. I felt safe. The girls made me feel very comfortable and felt like home.
