Is there a minimum GPA requirement for freshman girls to get a bid?

Grade cuts are first round. Below a 3.0 will get you cut from most if not all houses. You will have a better chance of surviving first round with a GPA of 3.3, a good chance with a 3.5, best chance with above that.

Do recs matter if you are on the border line of a good GPA?? IOW do recs help offset a lower GPA?

No, a rec won't save you and neither would legacy. Only something really extraordinary would offset that. Like celebrity or something.

So what is the best approach? Skip rush and try to bring up GPA in freshman first semester and then do COB in the spring?
I was really sick my junior year and so my GPA is right at a 3.0
Thanks

COB is not a secondary rush and your chances are better to find your best fit during formal recruitment. Best strategy is to at least give it a shot and see what happens because you never know. If it doesn't work out for you then you can try COB or wait for fall again and go through as a soph. Never not try!

I am kind of confused because you said you have a 3.0 now.The average unweighted GPA for those admitted to UTK is well above a 3.5. That is why I am trying to figure out if you are already accepted or still hoping to get in. A 3.0 is usually the cutoff that gets you dropped first round from most houses, but the bigger question is whether UTK has admitted you yet.

I’m in the same boat with a 3.3 GPA but have many many hours of volunteer/community service.
Does this help?

No, that will not save you from a GPA cut.
